Sheffield Photographers and Bulb photography.

Bulb Photography:
Bulb photography is a type of photography, a reference to old photography, where the bulb was an air bubble that would open the shutter and allow the lens to capture an image. In modern photography, bulb photography is when the shutter speed is adjusted on a modern camera (controlled by the photographer) to allow for long exposure.

The following photographers are famous sheffield photographers:
-Chris Saunders (portrait and music)
-Mark Harvey (ID8 Photography corporate events, editorial)
-Duncan Philpott

Chris Saunders
Chris Saunders has been a photographer for over 10 years, during which time he has photographed many well known authors, actors, film directors, musicians, comedians and had the resulting work published in numerous publications worldwide.

The Guardian, The Observer, Sony, EMI, Universal Records, Random House Publishing, & Harper Collins Publishing are all clients of Chris Saunders.
He has photographed award winning actors, guitarists & many famous film directors, authors, comedians, & musicians.

He is passionate about his works, starting from an early age to follow his dream. he doesn't class himself as anything special, and works in the same style as many other famous Portrait photographers

This is one of his photographs, a picture of Derren brown, the famous illusionist.  His images are supposed to capture the personality of their subjects.  In this image, He is wearing a large coat, his body turned away and the collar turned up to obscure part of his face. All of these aspects give the subject a feeling of mystery, and given the nature of Derren Brown's works, makes sense.

Mark Harvey
D8 is all about getting the shots that they claim other photographers neglect, The world as it is, not filtered, not set up, no fancy lighting, no doctoring of images. they try to capture the world and not the personality of a single person or place.
even then, they still require editorial images that are designed to impress. based in sheffield, they now take images for many famous companies, usually of sheffield city.

As stated before, the images, while angled in a specific way, hide very little and are not particularly focused on any one subject. they are more of the environment itself, trying to capture the heart of the area rather than of a specific landmark or person. The first image is particularly vindictive of this, as there is no discernible landmark to draw the eye, just the landscape as it is.

Duncan Philpott

Duncan Philpott is part of a company known as Steel City Media. The company hit it's stride when he moved to Sheffield and studied mathematics.
His first images were small projects for editorial companies, but evolved into working for a range of editorial and commercial clients as well as following the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup series across the globe.

Being a sports photographer, the images need to reflect the pace and action of the said sport, in this case the UCI Mountain bike world cup. The sport is fast paced and action packed, so the images need to capture that. the angles are usually ground based, making the bikes look considerably larger than they are. The flames of the last image are likely photo shopped in for effect. The second image is interesting, as all of the screen besides the actual bike in the race.
