Permissions

The area I was shooting was the Sheffield peace gardens; I chose this because it is an open, public area with a lot of visual appeal to it. It is a public space and is open to use and photography by anyone.

The building I was shooting was The Matilda street tavern; I chose this because it bears interesting street art on its walls. The building is disused and run down, it is doubtful that anyone would request permission for it’s use.

The building I was shooting was a small building near Matilda Street. I chose this because it had interesting architecture and I felt like its dilapidation captured a different aspect of the city. The building had no clear owner and was likely a service facility owned by the council. Like the rest of the city, no permission was required.

The building I was shooting was the Sheffield Q-park; I chose this because it is an interesting looking building in terms of design. If I were exhibiting these photographs in a public space I would have to seek permission from the owner to use that image. If they did not agree to that use of the building I would have to choose another location

The object I was shooting was a small statue in the city centre; I chose this because I like the look of the item in question. It is highly unlikely that such an insignificant thing would require photographing.

The area I was shooting was Sheffield streets and public areas such as High street and Fargate. I chose this because. If I were exhibiting these photographs in a public space I would not have to seek permission, as it is a public area.

The item I was shooting was a PS4 chose this because I feel it represents technological advancements in Sheffield. If I were exhibiting these photographs in a public space I would have to seek permission from the owner to use that image. If they did not agree to that use of the interior of the building, I would have to choose another location.

Camera settings for photos

All but a few photos had a high aperture as they were taken in the middle of the day.
All photos used a standard lens.
All photos used the same shutter speed.
The ISO is at 100 for all images, meaning a very strong ray or presence of light would be required to alter the image in a negative way.

of all the photos, the one above is the only photo that used a low aperture as it was taken indoors and all the rest were taken outside in the day light.

This image may also have had a lower aperture as it was taken at a later point in the day.

LO3 Final 10 Images

Image 1-
Tools:
  • Magic wand Tool
  • Layers
  • Import file
  • Eraser
  • Clone stamp
  • Rasterise
  • Sponge tool
  • Burn tool
What Effect am I attempting to Achieve?:
  • I am attempting to splice together images of Sheffield, in this case the silver fountains and Fargate to change the look of the city. It compiles at least three different images to create the effect of a smaller and more artistic street. The sudden size decrease is due to how close the street art looks
How happy are you with the finished product?:
  • Overall I like this image as a finished piece. It throws together aspects of Sheffield that might not normally coincide. a crowded high street, the silver fountains and street art.

Image 2
Tools:
  • Magic wand tool
  • Layers
  • Eraser
  • Opacity
  • Burn tool
  • Blur tool
  • Lasso tool
What Effect am I attempting to achieve?:

  • I am attempting to create a different backdrop for the sheffield skyline. I removed what was there and created a space themed image instead. It is supposed to create more of an atmosphere in the picture than a simple city-scape.
How happy are you with the finished product?:

  • I am fairly happy with the final result, as it accomplishes what i set out to do with reasonable quality

Image 3
Tools:
  • Magic wand Tool
  • Layers
What effect are you trying to achieve?:
  • I was not really going for anything when I created this. I accidentally deleted a large amount of the building and the layer below showed through. However I thought the effect of old, scratched graffiti looked good.
How happy are you with the finished product?:
  • fairly. the brick alignment is a little off, however from a distance the image looks good and fairly realistic, creating that worn, old effect that I was going for.

Image 4
Tools:
  • layers
  • opacity
  • warp tool
What effect are you trying to achieve?:
  • I am reflecting the images of sheffield on the steel fountains by the peace gardens. some of it is also reflected in the water.
How happy are you with the finished product?:
  • I like the finished effect. the reflections all look fairly good

Image 5
Tools:
  • Magic wand tool
  • Colour invert
What effect are you trying to achieve?:
  • I wasn't really trying to do anything with this. I suppose I was trying to create the effect of making a completely different image from one that already existed.
How happy are you with the finished effect?:
  • It looks good enough

Image 6
No tools used

  • I like this image. It is clear what the focus of the image is. I like the framing, the bus in the corner and the focus on the statue. It is a good image that captures the creativity in town that can be overlooked.

Image 7
No tools used.
  • This image is a more simple shot of the fountains as they hit their peak. timing for this photo was difficult as the fountains weren't up most of the time. Asides from the few people in the corner this image is almost clear of human influence. I wanted a picture as clear of people as possible to capture just the environment

Image 8
No tools used.
  • This low angle shot of the grass near the peace gardens looked good to me. The focus on the pigeons looks good and the way the left side is more focused than the right. Again, I was trying to capture a clear image of town and the environment, rather than it's people even if a few made it in.

Image 9
No tools used

  • I like the framing of this photo. the subject is very clear; The wall and street art.however the tilted angle is excellent and the overall quality of the photo looks excellent.

Image 10
No tools used
  • There is not much I can say about this photo that isn't presented within the photo. again, the slanted angle adds a certain effect. the framing is a little off and the remote could have been more central, but what needs to be in focus is and the image is presented well enough, free of human influence.
